Car Insurance And Traffic Tickets – Why Careful Driving Is Going To Pay Off

Car Insurance And Traffic Tickets – Why Careful Driving Is Going To Pay Off

Author: Brian Hickie

Answer this question: how much does your car insurance cost you
each month? If you are like most people, you probably won't know
the exact answer to this question right off the bat. You
probably could guess, but you don't know how much money you are
spending each and every month on your car insurance.

Car insurance is an expensive part of your budget and if you
don't know the details, you are definitely throwing money down
the drain. The next question that you are going to see if you
can answer is how much money getting a speeding ticket or other
moving violation is going to cost you? You probably could guess
that a speeding ticket is going to cost you between $100 and
$250, but you probably haven't thought about the cost of the
increase in your car insurance. Suddenly that cheap car
insurance plan that you bought is not so cheap anymore!

Driving carefully is definitely going to save you a lot of
money over the course of a year. Take this example: you get a
speeding ticket for going twelve miles over the posted speed
limit and you get a ticket for $150. You pay the ticket and
think all of your troubles are finished only to get a letter
from your car insurance company saying that your car insurance
premium is going to increase by 10%, so now, instead of $60 per
month, your car insurance is going to be $66. So much for cheap
car insurance.

When this happens, you usually have only two options. The first
option is to do nothing. This would mean that you are going to
pay that extra $6 a month and not complain. Over the course of a
year, that means you are going to pay an extra $72 for your car
insurance, without even adding in the cost of the traffic
ticket.

The second option is to change insurance companies. This will
entail going out and getting car insurance quotes. Once you have
these car insurance quotes, you are going to have to compare
them to see if you are truly going to get a better deal with the
new company or whether or not you are going to save any money
and whether or not it is worth the trouble.

If you do get a quote that you think is going to be cheaper,
take it to your current car insurance company and see if they
will match it. Sometimes, they will want you to stay their
customer so much, that they will give you the discount, which
will save you a lot of paperwork and time. Even if they only
give you half of the discount, it might be easier to take that
discount and stay with your current car insurance company.

You probably didn't calculate the increase in your car
insurance premiums when figuring out how much that speeding
ticket is going to cost you. Driving as cautiously as possible
is really going to insure that you don't get tickets and the
price of insurance doesn't get raised for your traffic mistakes.
